Institut für Writschaftsinformatik - Software Engineering The Institut für Wirtschaftsinformatik - Software Engineering (Department of Business Informatics - Software Engineering) at the Johannes Kepler University of Linz has been established in 1987. Its main areas of activities are research, education and industrial cooperation in the area of software engineering. In 1992 the department was granted a C. Doppler Laboratory for Software Engineering by the C. Doppler Society, which ended after the maximum allowed duration in 1999. The department is headed by Prof. Gustav Pomberger and at the time of writing comprises about 15 researchers. The current research activities include information system analysis, software development process management, requirements analysis, component-based and distributed software architectures, as well as virtual reality technology for industrial applications. The department aims not only at achieving quality education and research, but also at establishing mutual beneficial cooperations with industry partners. Our industrial partners include Siemens AG (Germany), Ars Electronica Center Linz (Austria), voestalpine Stahl GmbH (Austria), AVL-List GmbH (Austria), UNI Software Plus (Austria), and others. We have also contact and cooperations with a number of acadamic institutions, like the University of Zürich (Switzerland), the University of Hamburg (Germany) and the University of Salzburg (Austria). The department is one of founding members and partners of the Software Competence Center Hagenberg (SCCH).
